Our Core

Vision

To create self-reliant, self-sufficient, and self-sustaining communities with a capacity to identify and lead their own development strategies

Mission

Our mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty within the urban and rural poor by initiating and implementing participatory programs that give communities tools to Self-sustaining livelihoods.

Our History

Beyond the Vision Initiative (BVI) was born out of a quiet but powerful dream—one carried by our founder, Jackline Musyoka. Having grown up witnessing the deep injustices of poverty, she held a firm conviction: that with the right tools, people could rise—beyond hardship, beyond struggle, and beyond the limitations society placed on them.

The Machakos Foundation

That belief took root in Machakos, Kenya, where BVI began its journey by working with rural women’s groups. These early efforts were humble—training sessions under trees, honest conversations in Jackline’s mother’s sitting room, and a shared sense of hope. Through our sustainable livelihoods program, women learned business skills, accessed credit, and started small enterprises that transformed not only their lives but their families’ futures. At the same time, BVI supported children from underprivileged backgrounds through scholarship programs, ran HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, and offered famine relief during dry seasons by distributing food to families facing starvation.

Expanding to Nairobi's Urban Challenges

By 2013, our work expanded into the Tassia slums of Nairobi. There, Jackline encountered a new set of challenges: children denied access to education, families struggling with hunger, and young people burdened by trauma. In response, BVI launched a basic education program—starting with makeshift classrooms and donated supplies. The community embraced the vision, and from these humble beginnings, the Beyond the Vision Community School was born. More than just a school, it became a symbol of what’s possible when communities are empowered to shape their own future.

A Holistic Vision Takes Shape

As we grew, our approach evolved. We came to understand that education alone isn’t enough. Children cannot learn on empty stomachs. They cannot thrive while carrying unspoken pain. So we expanded our focus to include nutritional support, mental wellness, and mentorship—creating a holistic model that nurtures learners academically, emotionally, and socially. From those first conversations under trees to now impacting thousands across Kenya, our story is one of hope, resilience, and community-led transformation. Every step of the way, we’ve been guided by the belief that no dream is too small to change the world.
