Overview

At Beyond the Vision Initiative (BVI), we believe education is the most powerful tool to break the cycle of generational poverty. BVCS was founded to provide quality primary education to children in informal settlements—many of whom are the first in their families to step into a classroom.

Breaking the Cycle of Generational Poverty

Located in the heart of Nairobi’s Tassia slums, BVCS targets children who face daily challenges such as hunger, lack of resources, and limited access to safe learning environments. By offering the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), BVCS empowers students with both academic knowledge and practical life skills.
This initiative also supports Kenya’s Vision 2030 and aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Through BVCS, children have a real shot at transforming their future and contributing to stronger, more resilient communities.

Activities & Implementation Approach

Comprehensive Academic Programs

BVCS offers a full-day, competency-based curriculum covering essential subjects like Math, Science, Language, and Social Studies. Teachers integrate practical, hands-on lessons to keep learners engaged.

Daily Nutrition & Wellness

A daily meal program ensures no child studies on an empty stomach. Weekly health classes teach students about nutrition and hygiene, safeguarding their overall well-being. Mental wellness support is also available in partnership with our Hakeem’s Space initiative.

Mentorship & Spiritual Support

Trained mentors guide students in building self-esteem, life skills, and positive values. Spiritual support sessions foster moral development and create a nurturing environment that values empathy and respect.

Community Involvement

Regular parent forums encourage family engagement, while teacher workshops and stakeholder meetings strengthen local ownership and sustainability. This collective approach ensures students receive consistent support both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Technology Integration: Introduce digital learning tools to enrich the CBC curriculum.
  • Community Resource Center: Provide after-school programs and skill-building workshops for parents and older youth.
  • Scale to Nearby Informal Settlements: Expand outreach to ensure even more children can access BVCS’s transformative education.

Needs

Funding & Support

To achieve these plans and maintain our current programs, BVCS urgently needs:
